Domaine Chermette Beaujolais Les Griottes 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Domaine Chermette Beaujolais Les Griottes, in magnum, takes its name from a stand of cherry trees beside the vineyard.

The Chermette family are based at Saint-Vérand in the south of Beaujolais, well away from the crus, and their vineyards sit on dark granite soils around the homestead. Les Griottes is drawn from Gamay vines of thirty to forty years and is made deliberately as the lighter counterpoint to the domaine's age-worthy Moulin-à-Vent and Fleurie: bright, cherry-fruited and easy to return to. The method has stayed the same for decades, with traditional whole-bunch, semi-carbonic fermentation in concrete tanks and maturation in tank and old oak casks, so no new wood interferes. The magnum format slows development a little and suits a wine intended for a table of people rather than a single glass.

Drink over the next three to four years, lightly chilled, with charcuterie, roast pork or grilled vegetables. Serve at 13-15°C.
