Domaine Chermette Beaujolais Les Griottes 2025

Domaine Chermette Beaujolais Les Griottes is named after the grove of cherry trees flanking the vineyard.

Southern Beaujolais, around Saint-Vérand, lies below the Cru villages and is usually planted on heavier ground, but the Chermette family work dark granite soils around their homestead, which suits Gamay well. The fruit for this cuvée comes from 40-year-old vines. Where their Moulin-à-Vent and Fleurie are built to age, Les Griottes is deliberately aimed at something lighter, brighter and cherry-fruited, the sort of bottle that empties quickly. The winemaking has not changed in decades: traditional whole-bunch, semi-carbonic fermentation in concrete tank, followed by maturation in tank and old oak casks. A cooler season gives a particularly thirst-quenching result at this level, with crunchy blueberry and strawberry fruit and a cherrystone tang running through the finish.

Drink young, within two or three years. Serve at 14-16°C, lightly chilled, with charcuterie, roast pork or a ploughman's plate.
