Description
Domaine Chermette Beaujolais Les Griottes, in a 375ml half bottle, is named after the grove of cherry trees flanking the vineyard.
Southern Beaujolais, around the Chermette homestead at Saint-Vérand, is a warmer and gentler landscape than the crus to the north, and the family's dark granite soils here produce a lighter style by design. The fruit comes from Gamay vines of thirty to forty years, and where Chermette's Moulin-à-Vent and Fleurie bottlings are made for the cellar, Les Griottes is aimed squarely at early drinking: light to medium-bodied, bright and cherry-fruited. The winemaking has not changed in decades, with traditional whole-bunch, semi-carbonic fermentation in concrete tanks followed by maturation in tank and old oak casks. Nothing here obscures the fruit, and the half-bottle format suits a wine made for the table rather than the cellar.
Drink it now and over the next two or three years, lightly chilled, with charcuterie, roast chicken or a simple tomato pasta. Serve at 13-15°C.
