Domaine Chermette Fleurie Poncié 1.5L MAGNUM 2021

Domaine Chermette Fleurie Poncié is drawn from 45-year-old vines on the pink granite of a highland site above the village, bottled here in magnum.

Fleurie is one of the ten Beaujolais crus and the one most often described in terms of perfume rather than power, its best sites lying on decomposed pink granite high above the village. Poncié is among a handful of celebrated highland terroirs along that ridge, Roche Guillon being another, and Chermette's holding runs to a beautiful 4.5-hectare block of vines now around 45 years old. Pierre-Marie Chermette works from Saint-Vérand in the south of the region and has spent decades arguing for traditional Beaujolais made without additions or heavy correction. The winemaking here follows that line: natural, whole-bunch fermentation in large concrete vats, then ageing in large old foudres that add no oak flavour. It makes the estate's most seductive and graceful cru bottling, particularly in its first years.

Lovely young and worth keeping five to eight years, more in magnum. Serve at 16°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom risotto.
