Description
Domaine Chermette Fleurie Poncié is drawn from a 4.5-hectare site of forty-five-year-old vines on pink granite high above the village.
Fleurie is the most perfumed of the Beaujolais crus, and Poncié is one of a handful of celebrated highland terroirs strung along the ridge above the village, Roche Guillon being another. The pink granite there is the source of the appellation's characteristic lift. Domaine Chermette, run by Pierre-Marie Chermette from Saint-Vérand, treats this as its most graceful cru bottling, particularly in youth. The winemaking is traditional throughout: natural whole-bunch fermentation in large concrete vats followed by ageing in large old foudres, with no new oak anywhere in the process. Chermette describes the style he is after in Fleurie as élégant et aérien, elegant and lifted, which is a fair summary of what the site gives when it is not pushed.
Lovely on release and will hold five to eight years. Serve at 15-16°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a soft goat's cheese.
