Domaine Chermette Fleurie Poncié 375ml 2022

Domaine Chermette Fleurie Poncié is a cru Beaujolais from 45-year-old Gamay on the pink granite of one of the appellation's high-ridge terroirs, in a half-bottle.

Fleurie sits in the northern band of Beaujolais crus, its lighter, pink-granite soils giving wines known for perfume rather than muscle. Poncié is one of a small group of celebrated highland sites along the ridge above the village, alongside the likes of Roche Guillon, and is among seven Fleurie vineyards recently put forward for premier cru status. Pierre-Marie Chermette draws this cuvée from 4.5 hectares of vines around 45 years old. The winemaking is traditional for the region: natural whole-bunch fermentation in large concrete vats, then ageing in old foudres rather than small barrels, so the fruit and site do the talking. The style is ripe yet compact and silky, with the floral, red-fruited lift Chermette describes as élégant et aérien, elegant and lifted.

Delicious in its youth and capable of five or six years in bottle; serve slightly cool at 15–16°C with charcuterie, roast chicken or a mushroom tart.
