Domaine Clos de Tart Grand Cru Clos de Tart Museum Release 2013

Domaine Clos de Tart Museum Release is a library bottling of the monopole grand cru from Sylvain Pitiot's final vintage as régisseur.

Clos de Tart is a walled monopole of just over seven hectares in Morey-Saint-Denis, farmed as a single property since the Cistercian nuns of Tart planted it in the twelfth century, and is one of the very few grand crus in Burgundy under one ownership. Pitiot ran the estate for more than two decades before handing over to Jacques Devauges, and rated this among the best wines he made there, which counts for something from a man not given to overstatement. Picking began very late, on 8 October, a deliberate wait for full ripeness that was not universal that year and is central to the wine's classicism. Fermentation was natural with 60 per cent whole bunches, followed by just under 17 months in 100 per cent new Tronçais oak. The wine was hand-bottled by gravity, unfined and unfiltered, from yields of only 23 hl/ha.

Drinking now with time in a decanter and capable of many more years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast game, beef in red wine or a mature Époisses.
