Description
Domaine du Clos de Tart's La Forge de Tart is grown inside the Clos de Tart monopole but deliberately declassified from grand cru to Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru.
Clos de Tart is a walled monopole of just over seven hectares in Morey-Saint-Denis, held as a single property since the twelfth century. La Forge comes from within those walls, from younger vines than the grand vin and from parcels that do not quite fit the final blend, and the estate steps the label down a rung to keep the two apart. The bar remains high: batches that fall short of the house standard are sold off in bulk to a négociant rather than bottled. The 2021 draws on the La Forge parcel itself, Ballonge 2 and Plantation 2011, together with declassified fruit from Jeanniard and Plantation 2005, both mid-slope on the Bonnes Mares side of the clos. Under Alessandro Noli the winemaking has shifted towards purer fruit expression: a quarter whole bunches now go into the ferment, and new oak has been dialled back to around 45 per cent from 80 under the previous regime.
Fine-boned but deep, it should start to open at about five years and hold well beyond a decade. Match it with roast squab, beef fillet or truffled potatoes, and serve at 16–18°C.
