Description

Domaine Daniel Bouland Côte de Brouilly Cuvée Mélanie comes from a half-hectare of 70-year-old vines on the blue volcanic soils of Mont Brouilly.

Côte de Brouilly is the cru planted on the slopes of Mont Brouilly itself, and its blue-tinted volcanic rock, known locally as terres bleues, is what separates it from the softer Brouilly on the plain below. Bouland's parcel sits within the lieu-dit of Tête Noire, directly above Château Thivin, on a steep slope planted at 12,000 vines per hectare — a density that forces the roots down and keeps yields very low. The vines are around 70 years old, and the cuvée is named for Daniel Bouland's daughter. Winemaking follows the house method: whole bunches, indigenous yeasts, natural fermentation and no new oak. The blue schist gives the wine a darker, deeper register than the domaine's Chiroubles or its sandier Morgon parcels, with more spice and more structure.

Worth three to eight years in the cellar. Serve at 16°C with roast lamb, duck confit or a hard washed-rind cheese.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
