Description
Domaine Daniel Bouland's Morgon Bellevue Sable comes from the sandy side of a lieu-dit divided by a single track, bottled in magnum.
Bellevue is one of the Haut-Morgon sites Bouland keeps separate, and its ground changes completely from one side of a small track to the other: sand here, stones in the Cailloux parcel a few metres away. The Sable side is weathered sandy granite on the steeper slope, planted to vines of 40 to 50 years grafted onto Vialla, a low-yielding rootstock well suited to sandy, granitic and deep argilo-siliceous soils. As everywhere at the domaine, yields are low, fermentation is natural and whole-bunch, and the wine is bottled without fining. Tasted alongside the Cailloux, Sable is the more giving of the two, broader through the palate with juicier tannins, while keeping the mouth-watering energy and drive that runs through the range. The 1.5-litre format slows its development.
Good now and worth three to five years in magnum. Serve with roast lamb, grilled sausages or a hard sheep's cheese at around 16°C.
