Description
Domaine Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette is the first of three cuvées the domaine draws from Corcelette's sandy, granitic soils.
Morgon is the most substantial of the Beaujolais crus, and Daniel Bouland has most of his old bush vines within its Corcelette climat, in the hilly Haut-Morgon to the north-west of the appellation. Corcelette's sandy, granitic soils give wines of greater perfume and finer, rounder tannin than Morgon's more schist-influenced terroirs, such as the Côte du Py. This bottling separates what Bouland calls his younger vines here, averaging around sixty years of age and so young only by his standards, from the very oldest bush vines that go into the Vieilles Vignes label. As with everything at the domaine, it was fermented with whole bunches and indigenous yeasts, the must foot-trodden towards the end to draw the fermentation out. Where the old-vine cuvées are raised in wooden foudre, this one is vinified in concrete tank.
The prettiest and most immediately approachable of the Bouland Morgons; drink over the next six years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, pork belly or a mushroom tart.
