Description
Domaine Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette, in three-litre double magnum, is drawn from the domaine's younger vines in the climat, which still average sixty years of age.
Corcelette lies in the sandy, granitic north-west of Morgon, a soil that produces wines of greater perfume and rounder, finer tannin than the schist-marked terroirs elsewhere in the appellation. Daniel Bouland separates his so-called younger vines here, around sixty years old on average, from his oldest bush vines, which go into the Vieilles Vignes bottlings. This is the first of his three Corcelette cuvées. As with everything at the domaine, the fruit ferments as whole bunches with indigenous yeasts, and the must is foot-trodden towards the end to prolong fermentation. The wine is more red-fruited, savoury and floral than the old-vine cuvées, with bright aromatics and a smoky, vibrant close, and it carries enough powdery tannin to justify keeping.
Cellar three to five years and drink over the following decade; serve lightly chilled with charcuterie, roast pork or a mushroom tart at 14-16°C.
