Description

Domaine Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette Vieilles Vignes Sable, in magnum, comes from vines planted in 1926 on deep granitic sand.

Corcelette lies in the hilly northern part of Morgon, and Bouland divides his holdings there by soil type. This cuvée takes the granitic sand — sable means sand — while its sister wine, Cailloux, comes from the rockier ground alongside. The vines here date from 1926, so this is a Vieilles Vignes bottling in the fullest sense of the term, and the yields are correspondingly tiny. Where the sand ordinarily brings roundness and a Burgundian texture, the age of these trunks adds concentration on top of it. The wine is raised in an old foudre rather than in concrete, which suits its scale: it comes out layered, inky and mouthcoating, with genuine finesse, and finishes on intense mineral character and a nip of old-vine grip.

Give it two or three years and drink across the following decade. Serve at 16–18°C with roast lamb, coq au vin or hard cheese.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
