Domaine Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette Vieilles Vignes Sable comes from vines planted in 1926 on the granitic sand of the Corcelette climat, bottled here in magnum.

Morgon is the most structured of the Beaujolais crus, and Corcelette, in the hilly north-west of the appellation, is where Daniel Bouland farms most of his old bush vines. He now bottles the climat’s parcels separately by soil type, and Sable, meaning sand, is the version grown on granitic sand rather than the stonier ground of the Cailloux cuvée. These are genuinely old vines, planted in 1926, and yields are correspondingly small. Fermentation is natural and whole-bunch, in keeping with the rest of the range, and the wine is raised in an old foudre so that the fruit and the sandy site come through unmarked by oak. The result is layered and mouthcoating, with dark plum and blackcurrant fruit, melting tannins, juicy acidity and a long, perfumed finish.

The magnum format will slow its development; drink over the next eight to twelve years. Serve at 16-18°C with charcuterie, roast duck or a mushroom pie.
