Description
Domaine Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette Vieilles Vignes Sable, in three-litre double magnum, is made from vines planted in 1926 on granitic sand.
Corcelette is the Morgon climat where Daniel Bouland has most of his oldest bush vines, and he now makes three site-specific wines from it. This is the sand cuvée, sable meaning sand, drawn from vines planted in 1926, which makes the Vieilles Vignes designation entirely literal. Granitic sand tends to give perfume and rounder, finer tannins than the schist-influenced parts of the appellation, and this bottling is the sister wine to the stonier Cailloux cuvée from the same climat. Farming is by hand at very low yields; the fruit ferments as whole bunches with indigenous yeasts and the wine is raised in an old foudre, then bottled without fining. The result is layered and mouthcoating, with dark plum and blackcurrant fruit, melting tannins and a long, perfumed finish.
A wine for the cellar, particularly in this format, and good for ten years or more; serve with slow-roast lamb, game or mature cheese at 14-16°C.
