Description
Domaine Daniel Bouland's Morgon Délys comes from the younger-vine half of a parcel directly behind the winery, offered here in magnum.
Les Délys is a lieu-dit within the Corcelette climat of Morgon, downslope from Bellevue and immediately behind Bouland's house and cellar — his back garden, in effect. He splits the holding into two cuvées: an old-vine bottling raised in foudre, and this younger-vine version raised in concrete. The vines here were planted in 1978 and 1980 in the deep granitic sand typical of Les Délys, which brings roundness and a texture closer to Burgundy than to the firmer, stonier Morgon sites. Fermentation follows the house method, natural and with whole bunches, and the wine is bottled without fining. It is refined rather than muscular, with succulent wild berry fruit, a nettle-like spice note and a racy close carrying only a light touch of tannin. A magnum lets it develop more slowly.
Drinking well now and good for around five years at this size. Try it with roast chicken, charcuterie or a vegetable tart, lightly chilled at around 16°C.
