Domaine Daniel Bouland Morgon Pré Jourdan 3L DOUBLE MAGNUM 2023

Domaine Daniel Bouland Morgon Pré Jourdan comes from a single small parcel of 70-year-old vines, bottled here in double magnum.

Pré Jourdan lies in the north-eastern corner of Morgon on the border with Fleurie, on the south side of a small valley with a north-easterly aspect facing the vineyard of Douby. Daniel Bouland has made his name on old vines and low yields across Corcelette, Bellevue and Delys, and this is a recent addition to the range, farmed in a plot just large enough to fill one large cask, in this case a young Rousseau foudre. The soils are predominantly granitic sand, as they are across much of Morgon, but they run deeper here than at Bellevue or Corcelette, and that extra depth gives a fleshier, more openly aromatic wine. It is deep by Beaujolais standards, with dark-fruited weight and a slaty, mineral edge, yet it keeps the lift and nuance of the cru.

Drinking now and holding for eight to twelve years in this format. Serve at 16°C with roast pork, coq au vin or a mushroom and thyme tart.
