Description
Les Farradjales is a rare varietal Cinsault, grown organically on limestone at 300 metres in the Minervois high country.
Minervois covers the slopes between Carcassonne and Narbonne, running up towards the Montagne Noire, and its cooler upper terraces have little in common with the warm plain below. Domaine de Courbissac's vineyards are carved into those limestone terraces, and the wines are made by Brunnhilde Claux, who came to the estate from Domaine Gauby and Terroir al Límit. She is particularly attached to Cinsault, a variety usually consigned to rosé or to a supporting role in blends but capable of real beauty when yields are low and the soil is poor enough. This parcel lies about twelve kilometres uphill from the winery on rocky white clay and limestone, exposed to the chilly Cers wind coming off the mountain. The seventy-year-old vines are riddled with esca and crop at paltry levels, which makes this her smallest cuvée and also her most floral, perfumed and delicate wine.
Drink young and fresh over the next three years, lightly chilled at 14-16°C. Good with grilled fish, roast chicken or a charcuterie board.
