Domaine de l'Agramante Cuvée Ciaülà Rouge 2023

Domaine de l'Agramante Cuvée Ciaülà Rouge is an organically farmed Côtes du Rhône from old-vine Grenache and Syrah on sandy terraces at Sabran.

Sabran lies in the Gard, on the right bank of the Rhône north of Bagnols-sur-Cèze, where south-facing terraces of sand and stone are exposed to steady wind. That exposure keeps the fruit healthy and the yields naturally low, and Carlo farms the site fully organically and by hand. Ciaülà is sixty per cent old-vine Grenache to forty per cent Syrah. The two are fermented separately, the Grenache fully destemmed and the Syrah with a portion of whole bunches, given a gentle maceration and then rested ten months in tank before bottling without filtration. It is the deeper and more structured of the domaine's two reds, leaning savoury and grounded where the M'arricriu is brighter, with a quiet firmness that builds as the wine opens.

Drinking well now and for five or six years, it suits slow-cooked meats, rich sauces and hard cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C.
