Domaine de l'Arlot Côte de Nuits Clos du Chapeau 2016

Domaine de l'Arlot Côte de Nuits Clos du Chapeau is a 1.6-hectare walled monopole at Comblanchien and the most immediately approachable red the domaine makes.

Côte de Nuits-Villages covers the two extremities of the Côte de Nuits, and Comblanchien is one of its five villages, close to Domaine de l'Arlot's base at Prémeaux-Prissey. The Clos du Chapeau was acquired along with the Clos des Forêts by the merchant Jules Belin when he bought the property in 1891, and has stayed within it ever since, passing to AXA Millésimes in 1987. The parcel lies on clay and limestone in a village whose hard stone has long been quarried for building, and the domaine restricts yields and selects small berries. The work in the cellar follows the pattern of the premier crus: hand picking, indigenous yeasts, fermentation in stainless steel with a light hand, then ageing in barrel of which only a minority is new. Farming has been organic since 2000 and biodynamic since 2003.

Drinking now and will hold for a few years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a dish of braised lentils.
