Description
Domaine de l'Arlot Côte de Nuits Clos du Chapeau is a walled single vineyard at Comblanchien and the most immediately approachable red the domaine makes.
Côte de Nuits-Villages covers the northern and southern extremities of the Côte de Nuits, and Comblanchien sits at the southern end, close to Domaine de l'Arlot's base at Prémeaux-Prissey. The Clos du Chapeau is a walled parcel on shallow, stony soils over the hard Comblanchien limestone long quarried for building stone, a combination that gives cut and drive more than breadth. The domaine works it with the same care given to its monopoles: hand picking, indigenous yeasts, a share of whole bunches, extraction by gentle infusion and ageing in barrels that are largely used, so that oak plays no obvious part. It is the wine to reach for when the premier crus need more time.
Drinking now and will hold for a few years. Serve at 16–18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a dish of braised lentils.
