Domaine de l'Arlot Côte de Nuits-Villages Clos du Chapeau 2023

Domaine de l’Arlot Clos du Chapeau is a 1.6-hectare monopole in Comblanchien, at the southern end of the Côte de Nuits.

Côte de Nuits-Villages is the appellation that gathers the communes at either end of the Côte de Nuits, and the southern villages of Comblanchien and Corgoloin have long been overlooked in favour of the famous names to the north. That is changing, helped by the work of growers such as Camille Thiriet, and prices there remain among the last sane ones in the region. Domaine de l’Arlot’s Clos du Chapeau lies in Comblanchien, next door to Prémeaux where the domaine is based, in a hat-shaped plot that gives the vineyard its name. The vines are approaching forty years of age and sit on soil carrying plenty of limestone gravel washed down from the hills above. Made from entirely destemmed fruit, the wine fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in tank and was then aged eleven months in French oak, 30 per cent of it new.

Ready within a year or two and good for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, coq au vin or a semi-hard alpine cheese.
