Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot is the walled monopole that gives the estate its name, and the more delicate of the two it owns.

The clos covers four hectares at Prémeaux-Prissey, on the site of an old quarry that leaves it shaped like an amphitheatre, with a spring at its base. Its soils run from white oolitic limestone at the top, through the pink Prémeaux limestone in the middle, to marl studded with small oyster fossils below, and roughly half the ground is planted to white varieties. Only the oldest vines go into this red; the younger ones are bottled as Mont des Oiseaux. The walls were raised in the late eighteenth century by Jean-Charles Vienot, the property passed to the merchant Jules Belin in 1891 and to AXA Millésimes in 1987. Géraldine Godot has run the winemaking since 2014, and in 2015 she used about half whole bunches here, fermenting on wild yeasts with light handling before barrel ageing.

More approachable young than most premier cru Nuits, and able to age well. Serve at 16-18°C with roast quail, herbed pork loin or a mushroom galette.
