Description
Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot is the estate's walled monopole, and this bottling uses only its oldest vines.
The Clos de l'Arlot lies at Prémeaux, at the southern end of Nuits-Saint-Georges, where the Côte d'Or narrows to its steepest and thinnest point. The stone walls date from the eighteenth century, when the clos was created, and the domaine's buildings and winery sit inside them. Only 0.87 hectares of the oldest Pinot Noir go into this wine, most of it planted between 1939 and 1951 on the concave, amphitheatre section of the slope known historically as Cadastre no. 15. The rocky Prémeaux terroir, close to the forest above, has little in common with the rest of Nuits, and the wine reflects that: far more delicate and ethereal than Clos des Forêts, its sister monopole down the road, and closer in character to Chambolle. Géraldine Godot has directed the winemaking here since 2015.
Approachable from four or five years and good for fifteen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or a mild washed-rind cheese.
