Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot Blanc 2022

Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot Blanc is a rare white from within a red-wine monopole, grown organically and biodynamically on the steepest, rockiest ground in the clos.

Until 2021 this wine came from two small parcels of mass-selection vines planted in 1956 and 1984, where white chalky clay sits over hard limestone close to the surface. Everything there must be done by hand, weeding and biodynamic spraying included, and the poor soils and old vines keep yields low while the exposure delivers genuine ripeness, so the wine is always deep and textural with the mineral soils supplying freshness. It now also includes fruit from La Gerbotte, a 0.49-hectare plot at the southern end of the clos behind the buildings, bordering Clos de la Maréchale. Planted between 1992 and 2006, it lies on pink Prémeaux limestone rather than the white limestone elsewhere in the clos and includes about 2% Pinot Beurot, the local name for Pinot Gris. It is a cooler site that adds freshness and perfume.

Worth three to five years and capable of a decade. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, scallops or a mushroom and cheese tart.
