Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Mont des Oiseaux Cellar Release 2015

Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Mont des Oiseaux is drawn from the younger vines inside the Clos de l'Arlot monopole, and this bottle has been held back in the estate's own cellar.

The Clos de l'Arlot is a four-hectare walled vineyard at Prémeaux-Prissey, set in a former quarry that leaves it shaped like an amphitheatre, with a spring at its foot. Its soils change with height, from white oolitic limestone at the top, through the pink Prémeaux limestone, to marl full of small oyster fossils at the base. The oldest vines go into the Clos de l'Arlot bottling; Mont des Oiseaux takes the younger ones, combining fruit from the upper limestone with a young-vine plot on the marl below. Géraldine Godot has been technical director since 2014, and in 2015 she used a good share of whole bunches across the domaine's premier crus, fermenting on indigenous yeasts with restrained extraction before ageing in barrel. The vineyards have been farmed organically since 2000 and biodynamically since 2003.

Open now with a little air, and it will hold for several more years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or a washed-rind cheese.
