Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits Saint Georges La Gerbotte Blanc 2016

Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits Saint Georges La Gerbotte Blanc is a village-level white from a single parcel planted entirely to Chardonnay.

La Gerbotte lies on the flatter ground below the domaine's walled monopole at Prémeaux-Prissey, at the southern end of Nuits-Saint-Georges, where white wine remains an oddity in an overwhelmingly red appellation. The parcel is planted to Chardonnay on deeper, cooler soils than the slope above, and the wine that results is built on freshness and citrus drive rather than richness. Domaine de l'Arlot presses the bunches whole, ferments in barrel with only a small share of new oak and leaves the wine on its fine lees, stirring sparingly, so that texture builds without the fruit being covered. Of the estate's two whites it is the more direct, and the one to open first.

At its best in its first several years, while the citrus and acidity are at their clearest. Serve at 10–12°C with grilled fish, a prawn salad or fresh goat's cheese.
