Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits Saint Georges La Gerbotte Blanc 2016

Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits Saint Georges La Gerbotte Blanc is pure Chardonnay from the youngest white vines inside the Clos de l'Arlot, bottled at village level.

White Nuits-Saint-Georges is a rarity, and the domaine at Prémeaux-Prissey makes two of them. La Gerbotte comes from the white vines planted in the clos between 1992 and 2006, in a section set apart from the rest on white limestone with very little soil above it, which makes for a cooler pocket and a wine built on citrus and cut rather than weight. Although the ground would qualify as premier cru, the domaine bottles it as village Nuits-Saint-Georges. The grapes are picked early in the morning and pressed straight away, the juice settled cold and fermented on its own yeasts in vat before being moved to barrel part-way through, with about a fifth new oak, then aged roughly a year in wood and a few months in tank. Farming has been organic since 2000 and biodynamic since 2003.

At its best in its first several years, while the citrus and acidity are at their clearest. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, a prawn salad or fresh goat's cheese.
