Domaine de l'Arlot Romanée-St-Vivant 2016

Domaine de l'Arlot Romanée-St-Vivant is a grand cru from one of the great vineyards of the Vosne-Romanée slope, and the rarest wine the estate makes.

Romanée-Saint-Vivant lies lowest of the Vosne grands crus, directly below Richebourg and La Romanée-Conti, on deeper clay-rich soil over limestone. Its reputation rests on perfume and fine texture rather than power, and on taking its time to unfold. Domaine de l'Arlot's cellars are further south at Prémeaux-Prissey, in a property assembled by the merchant Jules Belin from 1891 and bought by AXA Millésimes in 1987; the two parcels in Vosne-Romanée, here and in Les Suchots, were added in 1991. The vineyards have been farmed organically since 2000 and biodynamically since 2003. Géraldine Godot has led the winemaking since 2014, working by careful sorting, fermentation on indigenous yeasts with whole bunches when the stems are ripe, restrained extraction and barrel ageing with a measured share of new wood.

This asks for patience and will keep developing for many years in a cool cellar. Serve at 16-18°C with roast game bird, truffled potatoes or aged comté.
