Domaine de la Grosse Pierre Chiroubles Aux Craz 2021

Domaine de la Grosse Pierre Chiroubles Aux Craz comes from a single hectare at 460 metres, near the highest point of the highest cru in Beaujolais.

Chiroubles sits above its neighbours Fleurie and Morgon, and its altitude gives wines that are lighter in frame and more perfumed than the crus below. Aux Craz is a south-facing vineyard under the Col de Durbize at the top of the village, where the soils are poor and thin over granite, forcing the roots of Céline Passot's 40-year-old vines into the rock beneath. The altitude and cooler microclimate slow ripening and keep the fruit crisp and defined. Winemaking follows the pattern of the domaine's other cru bottlings, with eleven months of maturation in concrete cuve and no oak before bottling. It is an unforced style of Beaujolais that puts fragrance and detail ahead of weight.

Best drunk over the next four years, lightly chilled, with charcuterie, roast chicken or a lentil salad. Serve at 14-16°C.
