Domaine de la Grosse Pierre Fleurie Bel-Air 2021

Domaine de la Grosse Pierre Fleurie Bel-Air is drawn from under half a hectare of vines planted around 1960, the smallest holding on the estate.

Fleurie is one of the ten Beaujolais crus and takes much of its character from the pink granite that underlies it. Céline Passot's parcel of Bel-Air sits just across the boundary from Chiroubles, where the domaine has most of its vines, and the change of commune brings a change of register: darker fruit, a more floral and saline line, and a little more tannic grip than her Chiroubles bottlings. The vines were planted around 1960 on that granit rose. Passot's handling is deliberately light, with the wine given eleven months of maturation in tank and no oak, so the emphasis stays on the perfume and the drinkability that make cru Beaujolais so useful at the table.

Drink now and over the next five years; it suits roast pork, charcuterie or grilled quail. Serve at 15-16°C.
