Description

Domaine de la Grosse Pierre Morgon Douby comes from 0.8 hectares of forty-year-old vines on pink granite laced with harder bluestone.

Morgon is the sturdiest of the Beaujolais crus, best known for the schist and decomposed volcanic rock of the Côte du Py, though its lieux-dits vary considerably. Douby lies next to the Pré Jourdan terroir on pink granite with a proportion of harder bluestone running through it. Céline Passot farms just 0.8 hectares here, with vines around forty years old. The firmer soil profile gives more structure and more tannin than the domaine's Chiroubles, but Passot describes the site as producing a Morgon of finesse rather than sheer power. Winemaking follows the pattern used across the range, with maturation in a mix of demi-muids and stainless steel, so the fruit and the granite stay to the fore.

Approachable now and capable of six to eight years, it suits roast duck, coq au vin or a plate of hard cheese. Serve at 15-17°C.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
