Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 1.5L MAGNUM 2020

Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is blended from thirteen biodynamically farmed parcels spread across the appellation, in magnum.

Domaine de Marcoux, run by the Armenier sisters, was among the first estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape to convert to biodynamics, in the early 1990s. The blend this year is 80 per cent Grenache with 10 per cent Mourvèdre, 7 per cent Syrah and 3 per cent Cinsault, drawn from thirteen parcels dotted across the appellation with a concentration on the Crau plateau. Those plots cover an unusually wide range of soils: the sands of Charbonnières, red clay and galets at L'Arnesque and Les Bosquets, limestone and white clay at Les Esqueirons and Beaurenard, and red clay and gravel at Les Galimardes, Les Serres and Les Plagnes. Each parcel is vinified separately, with anything that does not meet the mark declassified. Fermentation is natural, ageing runs eighteen months in concrete and large oak with no new wood, and the wine is bottled unfiltered.

Approachable from about five years and capable of twenty in magnum; serve at 16–18°C with roast lamb, game or a beef daube.
