Description
Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is drawn from 13 biodynamically farmed parcels spread right across the appellation.
Marcoux is among the longest-established biodynamic estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and its classic red is deliberately assembled from the whole appellation rather than from a single soil type. The 13 parcels are concentrated on the famous La Crau plateau but take in a wide spread of ground: the sandy soils of Charbonnières, the red clay and galets of L’Arnesque and Les Bosquets, the limestone and white clay of Les Esqueirons and Beaurenard, and the red clay and gravels of Les Galimardes, Les Serres and Les Plagnes to the south. Each parcel is vinified separately before blending, which keeps the wine balanced from year to year; anything that does not fit is declassified to Côtes-du-Rhône or sold to the négoce. This release was raised for 18 months in 80 per cent concrete vat and 20 per cent tronconique cuve, and bottled unfiltered.
A mature release, drinking in its window now with several years still in hand. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, game or a beef daube.
