Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2022

This Châteauneuf-du-Pape is blended from thirteen biodynamically farmed Marcoux parcels and is 85% Grenache in this release.

Marcoux's holdings are spread deliberately across the appellation so that no single soil type dominates. The Crau plateau contributes a run of strong parcels; Chabonnières, north of Le Crau, adds sandy soils and lighter, more ethereal fruit; L'Arnesque in the far west and Les Bosquets north of the town sit on rolled galets; Beaurenard and Les Esquirons form a line of limestone and white clay to the south-west; and Les Galimardes, Les Serres and Les Plagnes in the deep south bring red clay and gravel with correspondingly intense fruit. The balance of the blend beyond Grenache is Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. Fermentation is natural and each parcel is handled separately, with ageing spread over eighteen months in concrete vat, up to 80% of the wine, and large seasoned oak.

Approachable after four or five years and capable of fifteen or more; serve at 16–18°C with braised beef, game or roast lamb.
