Description
Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is assembled from thirteen biodynamically farmed parcels spread across the appellation.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape covers a mosaic of soils between Orange and Avignon, and Marcoux's holdings are deliberately scattered across it. The Crau plateau supplies a concentration of the best parcels; Chabonnières, east of the village and north of Le Crau, adds sand and gives lighter, more ethereal fruit; L'Arnesque out to the west and Les Bosquets north of town sit on the famous rolled galets; Beaurenard and Les Esquirons form a line of limestone and white clay to the south-west; and the southern sites of Les Galimardes, Les Serres and Les Plagnes bring red clay and gravel and correspondingly intense fruit. The estate has been biodynamic since the early 1990s. Each parcel is picked and vinified separately before blending, which lets the family build a balanced wine in most years; parcels that do not measure up are declassified to Côtes-du-Rhône or sold off.
It can be broached after a few years but will hold for fifteen or more; serve at 16–18°C with braised beef, game or a daube of lamb.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
