Domaine de Marcoux Raisin de Loup is the Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate's everyday red, made from plots on the alluvial plain outside the appellation boundary.

Domaine de Marcoux is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's benchmark estates, farmed by the Armenier family at Orange. This wine comes from two small plots in the southern reaches of the commune, on the alluvial plain between the river Rhône and the Châteauneuf vineyards proper — historically the ground where local vignerons kept their small holdings of vin de table vines, which is why the wine is labelled Vin de France. The blend is Grenache and Syrah with a dollop of Caladoc, an obscure crossing of Grenache and Malbec that appellation rules would not allow. Sophie Armenier's brief for it is simple: a delicious everyday red. Fermentation is natural, extraction gentle, and ageing takes place in cement vats with no oak involved. The vineyards are certified organic. The name translates roughly as grapes of the wolf, the local patois term for the black nightshade that grows around the vines.

Made to drink young and best over the next two or three years. Serve at 16-18°C with grilled lamb, ratatouille or a charcuterie board.
