Description
Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Cinq Terroirs is the estate's village wine drawn from five plots Denis Mortet chose for their terroir and plant material.
All five sites lie at the higher, northern end of the appellation, which is what dictates the finesse of the blend. They are En Motrot, between the church and the Château de Gevrey-Chambertin and close to Clos Saint-Jacques; Au Vellé, nearby beneath Petits Cazetiers; Combe-du-Dessus, at the top of the Brochon slope north-east of the village; En Champs, directly below the premier cru Champeaux, where the vines are over 70 years old; and En Dérée, below En Champs on the Brochon boundary. Careful picking dates and moderate yields of 30 hl/ha account for much of the quality. Only 25% new barrels were used and one third of the fruit was destemmed. Village Gevrey of this make would pass for premier cru from a good address in a blind line-up.
Worth at least five years in the cellar. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, braised oxtail or grilled mushrooms.
