Domaine Denis Mortet Marsannay Les Longeroies 2022

Domaine Denis Mortet Marsannay Les Longeroies comes from two mid-slope parcels in one of the commune's star climats, earmarked for eventual premier cru status.

Marsannay sits at the northern gate of the Côte de Nuits, the only Burgundian village entitled to make red, white and rosé under its own name, and it has no premier crus as yet, although a list of candidate climats has been put forward. Les Longeroies is among them. The name probably derives from the verb longer, to border, which fits a vineyard on the boundary between Marsannay and neighbouring Chenôve. It faces south, and Mortet's two parcels sit mid-slope: one planted with 50-year-old vines, the other with a Pinot Fin selection put in during 1992. Ageing ran to 18 months in oak, only 10% of it new and the rest in one- and two-year-old barrels, and 50% whole bunches were used, the highest proportion yet for this cuvée. Marsannay remains one of the last good-value appellations of the Côte.

Drinking from three years and holding for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, pork belly or a mushroom tart.
