Description
Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Les Cents Vignes comes from four parcels of old vines spanning both halves of one of Beaune's best-known Premier Crus.
Les Cent Vignes is among the first vineyards you meet heading west out of Beaune. It divides informally into two: an upper slope of brown clay and gravel, locally grèze litée, and a lower section of well-drained alluvial soils. Domaine des Croix farms both, with four parcels of old vines planted in 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1968 covering just over a hectare in total. Thirty per cent whole bunches were used, kept at the bottom of the fermenter so they stayed intact through the punch-downs, and part of the vineyard was left untrimmed as a tressage trial. The site performs particularly well in seasons without pronounced water stress, giving a fleshy, medium to full-bodied wine with sweet tannins and good depth at the core.
Drinking well from two or three years and holding for a decade, it suits roast duck, pork belly or mushroom pasta. Serve at 16-18°C.
