Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Les Tuvilains 2023

Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Les Tuvilains is made from vines planted in the 1930s on the clay-rich lower slope in the south of the appellation.

Les Tuvilains joined the Domaine des Croix range with the 2016 harvest, taking the number of Beaune terroirs the domaine works with to ten, village parcels included. It lies in the southern part of Beaune on the lower slope, where clay dominates the soil profile. David Croix farms 0.36 hectares here across two parcels of very old vines planted in the 1930s. The fruit is fully destemmed and the wine matured for fifteen months with around twenty per cent new oak, giving a denser, broader expression of Beaune than the domaine's higher-slope crus. Tuvilains is typically among the last vineyards picked, and the wine reflects its clay soils in weight and layering while retaining the polish that runs through the cellar.

Best from three years and good for a dozen, it suits braised beef, coq au vin or roast pork. Serve at 16-18°C.
