Description
Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Pertuisots is grown mid-slope on the Pommard side of Beaune, on a cooler and shallower terroir that gives the domaine's most mineral Beaune.
Pertuisots sits at the southern end of the Beaune Premier Crus, where the slope runs towards Pommard. The domaine farms half a hectare across two parcels, Petite Pertuisots planted in 1971 and Grande Pertuisots planted in 1987. Both lie on brown clay topsoils close in character to those of Pommard, over a bedrock of Jurassic limestone. The wine is fermented with roughly one-third whole bunches and raised with minimal new oak, a light-handed approach David Croix applies across the range. The shallower soils and cooler exposure here produce a wine built on aromatic lift and fine, taut structure rather than sheer weight, which is the reason the domaine prices it alongside its Bressandes.
Already open but capable of ten years or more, it partners well with roast poultry, mushroom dishes or grilled quail. Serve at 16-18°C.
