Description
Domaine des Croix Beaune Rouge is a village blend built around two parcels sitting immediately below the Beaune premiers crus.
The exact make-up shifts with the year, but two village sites form the core. Pointes de Tuvilain lies right up against the premier cru line and shares the marl and clay of its neighbours, while Blanchisserie sits lower down, below Bas du Teurons, on shallower, sandier ground. This release also includes a portion of premier cru Teurons. The vines were planted between 1957 and 2010 and all parcels have been farmed organically since 2008, with the canopies wrapped down rather than trimmed, a practice known as tressage. About 30% whole bunches went into the ferment. The wine was raised principally in large oak foudre, though this year it was racked into concrete early, made without added sulphur and bottled unfiltered.
Drink from release to about eight years; it suits charcuterie, roast pork or duck. Serve at 16-18°C.
