Domaine des Croix Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne 2022

Domaine des Croix Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne is drawn from a quarter of a hectare of organically farmed vines in the white marls of Le Charlemagne.

Corton-Charlemagne is the white grand cru of the Corton hill, occupying the upper band of slope where the soils turn to pale marl and the aspect swings from south-west round to north. David Croix farms two high parcels totalling just 0.25 hectares, both in Le Charlemagne above the historic Bonneau du Martray holdings, one facing west and one north on either side of the climat. They were planted in 1984-85 and 1988-89 respectively and have been managed organically since 2008. Both are prone to millerandage, giving tiny bunches of small, ripe, golden berries and correspondingly low yields. This vintage fermented and aged in used barrel before being racked into glass Wine Globe for a further twelve months, a vessel that adds nothing of its own and leaves the site to speak.

Powerful but linear, and best from three years out to fifteen. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, scallops or a well-aged Gruyère.
