Domaine des Croix Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne 2023

Domaine des Croix Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne comes from just a quarter of a hectare in the white marls at the top of the Charlemagne slope.

David Croix works mainly in and around Beaune and makes very little white, which makes this grand cru something of an outlier in the range. The fruit comes from two high parcels totalling 0.25 hectares in Le Charlemagne, above the historical holdings of Bonneau du Martray, one facing west and the other north, on either side of the hill. They were planted in 1984-85 and 1988-89 and have been managed organically since 2008. Both are prone to millerandage, so the bunches are small and the berries uneven in size, which concentrates the crop. The 2023 was fermented and aged in used barrel before being racked into a glass Wine Globe for a further twelve months, a vessel chosen for clarity of expression rather than added flavour.

Best from five to fifteen years; serve with lobster, roast poultry or veal in cream at 10-12°C.
