Description
Domaine des Croix Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Peuillets comes from a sandy sector of the appellation that borders Beaune's Blanche Fleur vineyard.
Savigny-lès-Beaune occupies a side valley running north-west from Beaune, and its premier crus divide between the two flanks of that valley. Les Peuillets sits on the Beaune side, just under Les Marconnets and sharing a boundary with the Blanche Fleur vineyard; it is the stretch of vines on the left as you head up the valley towards the village. A good deal of sand runs through the clay and limestone here, and that lighter soil is largely responsible for the finesse and the sweet-fruited core the wine shows. Domaine des Croix tends a single 0.57-hectare parcel planted in 1971. David Croix used 20 per cent whole bunches in the fermentation and, as across his range, kept new oak to a minimum during élevage.
Approachable within two years and holding for eight. Serve at 16-18°C with roast pork, duck breast or a mushroom risotto.
