Domaine des Croix Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Peuillets comes from a 0.57-hectare parcel of vines planted in 1971.

Savigny-lès-Beaune occupies a side valley at the northern end of the Côte de Beaune, and Les Peuillets sits on the flatter ground below Les Marconnets, sharing a boundary with Beaune's Blanche Fleur. Anyone who has driven into the valley towards the village has passed it on the left. Domaine des Croix is based in Beaune and works a compact holding of premier cru and village sites across the commune. A good deal of sand runs through the argilo-calcaire here, and that lighter soil is part of the reason the wine leans towards finesse rather than structure, with a core of red and dark cherry fruit. The 2022 crop was picked on 3 September and fermented with 55 per cent whole bunches before the usual barrel ageing.

Enjoyable from release and best over the next six to ten years. Serve at 16-18°C with duck breast, mushroom risotto or a mild washed-rind cheese.
