Domaine des Perdrix Bourgogne Rouge 2023

Domaine des Perdrix Bourgogne Rouge is a regional Pinot Noir made by a Côte de Nuits domaine based at Prémeaux-Prissey, at the southern end of Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Bourgogne Rouge is the broad regional appellation of Burgundy, and what it delivers depends almost entirely on who grows the fruit and where the vines sit. Domaine des Perdrix takes its name from Aux Perdrix, a premier cru climat of Nuits-Saint-Georges in the commune of Prémeaux-Prissey, of which the domaine owns the greater part. The estate belongs to the Devillard family, who also own Château de Chamirey in Mercurey. The regional wine is hand harvested and made in the same cellar, with much the same care, as the grander bottlings, then raised in barrel with only a small share of new oak. It is a useful way to see the house style without the grand cru outlay.

Serve at about 15 degrees with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom risotto; a year or two in the cellar does it no harm.
