Description
Domaine Dugat-Py Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru comes from one of the great vineyards of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the hands of one of the village's most sought-after growers.
Charmes-Chambertin occupies the lower slope south of the village, below Latricières and beside Mazoyères, whose growers are entitled to sell their wine under the Charmes name as well. Together the two run to roughly thirty hectares, making this one of the larger grands crus of the Côte de Nuits, and one where the grower's identity counts for a great deal. Bernard Dugat-Py and his son Loïc work from cellars in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, part of which occupy a medieval tithe building. The domaine is small, farmed organically and known for severe crop levels. Yields are kept very low, the fruit is hand harvested, and the wine is raised in a high share of new oak.
This has the frame for long cellaring; decant and serve at about 16 degrees with game, beef or a well-aged cheese.
