Description
Domaine Dugat-Py Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes is a grand cru red Burgundy drawn from the domaine's oldest vines in the climat.
Charmes-Chambertin sits on the gentler lower slope to the south of Gevrey-Chambertin, on deeper soils than the steeper grands crus above it. Old vines matter here: they carry small crops naturally and root deeply, and the vieilles vignes designation marks out the domaine's most venerable parcels rather than a separate vineyard. Bernard Dugat-Py and his son Loïc work from cellars in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, part of which occupy a medieval tithe building. The domaine is small, farmed organically and known for severe crop levels. Fruit is picked by hand and rigorously sorted, fermentation happens in small lots, and the wine is matured in oak. Quantities are tiny, and the wines are allocated rather than simply sold.
Give this time in the cellar; decant and serve at about 16 degrees with game birds, beef or duck.
