Description
Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Bourgogne Blanc comes not from the Côte Chalonnaise where the estate is based but from a plot of 50-year-old vines in Puligny-Montrachet.
Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is based at Rully, where the domaine is the leading name of the appellation, but this regional white is drawn from a 0.4-hectare parcel in the lieu-dit of La Combe at Puligny-Montrachet, on silt, clay and limestone soils. The vines are around fifty years old. Fermentation is spontaneous and the wine is raised with about 20% new oak from the Chassin cooperage, the same handling the domaine gives its village wines. The combination of vine age, a Puligny address and unhurried élevage produces something well above the usual regional standard, closer in shape and tension to a village Puligny than to a typical Bourgogne Blanc.
Drink from release to about six years; serve with grilled fish, roast chicken or a mushroom tart at 10-12°C.
