Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Bourgogne Rouge 2019

Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Bourgogne Rouge is a regional red built from mature Côte de Nuits parcels rather than leftover fruit.

The Bourgogne Rouge appellation covers the whole region, so quality rests entirely on where the vines sit and how carefully they are handled. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial draws this estate bottling from several parcels in the Côte de Nuits, principally in the communes of Prémeaux, where he has around half a hectare, and Puligny, with a further 0.34 hectares. The average vine age is now over 40 years, which shows in the concentration and the length. The fruit is entirely destemmed and the wine raised with one-third new barrels, giving a little spice and grip without smothering the Pinot Noir. The result carries more flavour and personality than the label implies, and sits closer in style to a village wine than to a typical regional bottling.

Approachable now and good for five years or so. Serve at 16–18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or charcuterie.
